About CJJSDA

Welcome

Our Philospohy

The martial arts philosophy of the CUREPIPE JU-JITSU SELF DEFENCE ASSOCIATION (CJJSDA) is to bring together Mauritian Ju-Jitsukas who are passionate about Ju-Jitsu with a shared purpose of practicing, transferring, maintaining and preserving traditional Ju-Jitsu in Mauritius. We devote our time in coaching and nurturing the roots of traditional Ju-Jitsu to our members to build their self-confidence, develop their character and foster technical excellence. In short, Ju-Jitsu is a way of life at CJJSDA.

CJJSDA was founded on 8th February 2006 and was registered as an association with the Registrar on 17th June 2008

Some Background on Traditional Ju-Jitsu

The word Jujitsu can be broken down into two parts.

” is a concept. The idea behind this meaning of “”  is “to be gentle”, “to be soft”, “to be flexible”, “to give way”, “to yield”, “to blend”, “to move out of harm’s way”.

Jitsu” is the “art”, “principle”, “technique”, or “the action” and represents manipulating the opponent’s force against themselves rather than confronting it with one’s own force.

The Characteristics of Ju-Jitsu

Ju-jitsu is characterised by using an attacker’s momentum against him by guiding it in a way that the applier would prefer (and not the attacker). Ju-jitsu methods include striking, kicking, throwing, restraining (pinning and strangling), joint locks, weaponry, and grappling. It is truly best known for its effectiveness against weapons, use of throws and its locks (armbars and wrist locks, for example). These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker’s energy against him, rather than directly opposing it.

 The Goal of Ju-Jitsu

The goal of ju-jitsu is to disable, disarm, or immobilise opponents, depending on the situation.
